Rally Against Bill 349

N O T I C E

To: Citizens of Western Wisconsin

Subject: Rally and Wisconsin Senate Committee Hearing on
WI Senate Bill 349 to strip regulatory control from towns and counties

From: Frac Sand Interest and Advocacy Groups, including Save the Hills Alliance and
Frac Sand Sentinel

Rally and Hearing Date: Thursday, October 24, 2013
Hearing: 9:30 a.m., Wisconsin State Capitol, Room 411 S
Rally: Noon, WI Capitol, State Street Entrance

Last week Senator Tiffany released the text of a bill he had not yet formally introduced in the Senate. This bill would prohibit local governments, such as towns and counties, from regulating or restricting businesses, including frac sand mines. It would also prohibit these local governments from monitoring air and water emissions from these businesses, placing sole regulatory control in the hands of the Department of Natural Resources.

While this bill affects existing and future frac sand mines, its potential scope is much broader. A coalition of advocacy groups and private citizens is heading to Madison on Thursday, October 24, to make our voices heard on this issue. We need you to join us.

We have chartered a motor coach so that interested citizens from western Wisconsin can travel to the Capitol for the hearing and rally on Thursday. We are asking for a contribution of $25 per person which will go toward the cost of renting the bus. However, if you cannot contribute, you will not be turned away.

The bus schedule, which is still subject to change, is as follows:

Thursday, October 24,
6:00 a.m. Pick up at Cenex Truck Stop (I-94, Exit 45), 2100 County Road B, Menomonie
6:40 a.m. Pick up McDonalds, 2971 Commercial Blvd., Lake Hallie (near WalMart)
7:40 a.m. Pick up at Flying J convenience store/gas station, Black River Falls
9:30 a.m. Arrive at Capitol
3:30 p.m. Depart from Capitol
6:00 p.m. Drop off at Flying J convenience store/gas station, Black River Falls
7:00 p.m. Drop off at McDonalds, Lake Hallie
7:30 p.m. Drop off at Cenex, Menomonie

If you would like to reserve a seat on the bus, please call Patricia Popple at 715-723-6398, or email her at sunnyday5@charter.net by Wednesday at 6 pm. An additional pick up/drop off point may be added if there are a number of people coming from a location other than the scheduled ones. When you reserve a seat, please provide an email address or fax number so that we may send you details on the trip.

  1. Very good website you have here but I was curious about if you knew of any forums that cover the same topics discussed here? I’d really love to be a part of community where I can get comments from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Cheers!

    • There are close to 58 Facebook pages in WI, MN Iowa, and Illinois devoted to the topic of frac sand mining. Google Frac sand Mining and you will come up with lots of sites. This is the oldest website going back close to 5 years so historically it has a great deal of information available to you. There are a few other websites as well. Check them out.

Courteous, concise comments relevant to the topic are welcome, whether or not they agree with the views that predominate here. Long rants proclaiming the infallibility of your own views or favorite ideology will not be posted, neither will repeated attempts to hammer on a point already addressed, nor will comments containing profanity, abusive language, flame-baiting and name calling. Please indicate precisely what you are blogging about. I just got a post from ? E-Mail ? which said: "Is this going to be OUR furture??. I have no idea what they were referring to and no way to contact them. This is why we prefer comments that are signed by actual persons who leave their E-Mail address (it won't be published) so they can be contacted if questions arise.
