Subject: Rally and Wisconsin Senate Committee Hearing on
WI Senate Bill 349 to strip regulatory control from towns and counties
From: Frac Sand Interest and Advocacy Groups, including Save the Hills Alliance and
Frac Sand Sentinel
Rally and Hearing Date: Thursday, October 24, 2013
Hearing: 9:30 a.m., Wisconsin State Capitol, Room 411 S
Rally: Noon, WI Capitol, State Street Entrance
Last week Senator Tiffany released the text of a bill he had not yet formally introduced in the Senate. This bill would prohibit local governments, such as towns and counties, from regulating or restricting businesses, including frac sand mines. It would also prohibit these local governments from monitoring air and water emissions from these businesses, placing sole regulatory control in the hands of the Department of Natural Resources.
While this bill affects existing and future frac sand mines, its potential scope is much broader. A coalition of advocacy groups and private citizens is heading to Madison on Thursday, October 24, to make our voices heard on this issue. We need you to join us.
We have chartered a motor coach so that interested citizens from western Wisconsin can travel to the Capitol for the hearing and rally on Thursday. We are asking for a contribution of $25 per person which will go toward the cost of renting the bus. However, if you cannot contribute, you will not be turned away.
The bus schedule, which is still subject to change, is as follows:
