Join Us in Our ANTI-SAND* MINING COMPETITION

If you cannot read this email please open the attachment. (A PDF will be attached)

Wisconsin has experienced the devastating effects of the sand mining storm for several years. Individual and communities are standing up against this devastation. One way to help is to give all of you a voice to express your opinion on this issue. We have found that message signs can be a powerful tool. Please join us in this effort to speak out through message signs by joining the following competition.

We have identified the following PHASES of this Competition and Signage Project:

CREATING THE MESSAGE: PHASE ONE

First you can join in the competition by creating anti-sand mining messages that you believe will be effective in your area. Those messages need to fit the “Burma-Shave” format of multiple signs, up to four, with brief messages of three words or less per sign. The following is a three message example: Save the Water: Save the Land, Stop Sand Mining. All messages will be judged for effectiveness in conveying the anti-sand mining message. The top three message winners will be awarded $50, $40, and $30 respectively. All messages should be submitted with the understanding that they may be used as part of the anti-mining campaign whether or not they win. The deadline for submissions is Monday, May 22, 2013. Please email your entries to: Heather Andersen at: coventree@bloomer.net

*The “sand” issues discussed above revolve around silica mines and the freshly fractured crystalline silica created as a result of disturbing sandstone for use in the hydraulic fracturing process, not the sand from sand and gravel pits frequently found in WI and elsewhere.

Courteous, concise comments relevant to the topic are welcome, whether or not they agree with the views that predominate here. Long rants proclaiming the infallibility of your own views or favorite ideology will not be posted, neither will repeated attempts to hammer on a point already addressed, nor will comments containing profanity, abusive language, flame-baiting and name calling. Please indicate precisely what you are blogging about. I just got a post from ? E-Mail ? which said: "Is this going to be OUR furture??. I have no idea what they were referring to and no way to contact them. This is why we prefer comments that are signed by actual persons who leave their E-Mail address (it won't be published) so they can be contacted if questions arise.
